On Friday night we finally got to see our two animations in the ‘Lantern La Lumiere’ project commissioned by Adelaide Fringe 09. Unfortunately the Rundle Lantern crashed soon after the launch of the project – and took 2 weeks to be fixed! But it was a big thrill to see our work on the huge digital canvas.

The ‘Lantern La Lumiere’ project asked 16 local Adelaide animators to create short works (up to 60secs) that attempted to convey narrative using the Rundle Lantern’s 68×21 pixels. This was a huge challenge! We were happy with our efforts (especially given that we had no way to test or fine-tune our work) and we learnt many lessons for future Rundle Lantern projects. Both animations suffered a loss of clarity and color – you can see the original input animation for ‘chase’ below.

We’re now past the half-way point of Fringe 09 and our exhibition of ‘the coded wall’ has attracted many visitors, some from as far away as France and Belgium. The small space in our studio is less than ideal for showing the work, but viewers are still having a lot of fun! Here are some photos of us setting up and testing the exhibition…

The Coded Wall at Adelaide Fringe 09

Great news – we’ll be exhibiting ‘the coded wall’ every Friday during Fringe 09!

• Venue: Make & Do Studio, Shop 111 Balcony Level, Adelaide Arcade, Adelaide.
• Dates: Friday the 6th, 13th and 20th March from 10am- 9pm.
• Cost: Free.

screen printed cards

We’ve been busy screen printing some cards using illustrations I made of plants in my garden. Here is a picture of our first round of prints. I have been experimenting with mixing my own colours this time- instead of just using ink straight from the pot! I think the buttery yellow is my favourite so far.

the coded wall

‘The Coded Wall’ is an interactive digital art project that explores new modes of live interaction made possible by combining high speed computing with a camera and projector. The work consists of a number of short dynamic projections which respond to shadows – so you can get in front of the projector and have a play!

The piece was originally exhibited during August 2008 in the Moving Image Gallery as part of the SALA Festival. The audience response was fantastic and we received a high commendation in the Bunka Moving Image Award.

‘The Coded Wall’ was built with proce55ing software and represents two months of collaborative work by Kirstin Wache and George Campbell at make&do studio.

gilles street market

Here are some pictures of our stall at the Gilles St market in Adelaide. We sold a range of items including screen printed teatowels and t-shirts (featuring our own designs) as well as little hand sewn objects like birds, twigs and door stops.

This project involved the creation of a simple website for a very small budget. The site incorporates a google calendar to show available appointment times and a booking form.
